After the release of Madonna‘s less than exciting new music video for “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” some fans were a little nervous about the star’s upcoming performance at the Super Bowl XLVI.
Luckily, there was nothing to worry about!
Madge killed the performance – with guest appearances by big names like LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., and Cee Lo Green.
The Queen of Pop started off her 12-minute medley with some classic hits including “Vogue,” “Music” (where LMFAO joined the singer and did a brief mash-up of “Sexy and I Know It,” her new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin'” (with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.), and closed out her performance with “Like A Prayer” (featuring Cee Lo Green).
Of course, no Super Bowl halftime show is complete without some kind of controversy. Three stand out in this show in particular:
1. Everyone was lip-syncing: Last year the Black Eyed Peas sang live and people thought they were awful. Madonna lip-syncs and people are upset that she didn’t sing live. Honestly, in performances as important as the Super Bowl – where the performer is extremely active – it’s better for them to lip sync because you don’t want to be disappointed by a bad vocal performance. The Super Bowl is about entertaining and giving the best performance you possibly can. If that means lip syncing, then so be it. I’d rather see an amazing show than hear Madonna huffing and puffing into the microphone after doing cartwheels across the stage.
2. M.I.A. giving the middle finger during the show: I think that one speaks for itself.
3. Madonna almost falls: It could happen to anyone. At least she kept going and didn’t show any signs of slowing down when she nearly fell during the performance. You go, Madge!
Overall, it was a great comeback for the icon. Her Super Bowl performance definitely left fans wanting more and you don’t have to wait for it: Madonna’s 12th studio album M.D.N.A. hit stores March 26 – and a world tour is in her immediate future!
And, of course, because the performance was at the Super Bowl, let’s give a shout out to the New York Giants for winning! The Giants beat the Patriots 21-17.
