Sparkle is a remake of the 1976 film. Taking place in the 1960’s Motown Era, the film is inspired by The Supremes and follows the story of three teenaged sisters from Detroit, Michigan who form their own girl group.

“Musical prodigy Sparkle (Jordin Sparks) struggles to become a star while overcoming issues that are tearing her family apart. From an affluent Detroit area and daughter to a single mother (Whitney Houston), she tries to balance a new romance with music manager, Stix (Derek Luke), while dealing with the unexpected challenges her new life will bring as she and her two sisters Sister (Carmen Ejogo) and Dolores (Tika Sumpter) strive to become a dynamic singing group during the Motown-era.”
This all-star cast includes Jordin Sparks (in her acting debut!), Derek Luke, Whitney Houston, Mike Epps, Cee Lo Green, Carmen Ejogo, Tika Sumpter, Vickie Winans, and Omari Hardwick. R&B artist R. Kelly wrote original songs for the film.
Sparkle was Whitney Houston’s final acting project. The film is to be dedicated to Houston, who died only three short months after the film wrapped.
