Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ Makes History!

Super heroes equal super movie.

Marvel’s The Avengers broke records this weekend, completely demolishing the opening weekend record of $169.2 million made last year by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows –  Part 2.  The Avengers now holds the new record at $207.4 million.

It was brilliant planning to have The Avengers open the same weekend as one of the biggest nerd holidays in the world, Free Comic Book Day.  Free Comic Book Day offers free comic books worldwide at participating comic book stores on the first Saturday of every May.  Diehard superhero and comic book fans made a day of it, attending Free Comic Book Day and rounding out their comic book adventures with a screening of The Avengers.

My favorite character during the movie had to be the Hulk.  The same technology used in James Cameron’s Avatar was used in The Avengers so that Mark Ruffalo could actually play Bruce Banner in Hulk form.  Plus, there were some pretty hysterical scenes in the movie involving the Hulk, like:

1. When the Hulk smashes Loki.

Loki (Tom Hiddleston): “I am a God! I am not going to be bullied by a…” [Hulk throws him around]

Dr. Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo): “Puny God.”

2. When the Hulk punches Thor.

Have you seen The Avengers yet?  What was your favorite part of the movie?

[UPDATE: If it wasn’t already obvious in the credits and in its record-breaking box office sales,  it’s been officially announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger that there will be a sequel to The Avengers.]
