It’s official — Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel have agreed to reprise their roles as Cory and Topanga in the sequel to Boy Meets World.
Fishel wrote up a blog post on Tumblr looking back on her experience working on Boy Meets World and sharing her joy to be Topanga again in the new series. “Those [seven] years [on Boy Meets World] were among the most warm, hilarious, insightful, educational years of my life and I wouldn’t trade them for the world,” wrote Fishel.
She continued: “I promise with the entirety of my heart that we will make [Girl Meets World] with the same honesty, innocence, and intelligence that you learned to expect from [Boy Meets World].”
Fishel also said that after rumors of the sequel leaked online at the beginning of November, the response from fans made her feel “inspired to bring these characters back to life and to tell more of their stories.”
With the new sequel, Fishel stresses that Girl Meets World “isn’t Boy Meets World brought back to life,” but encourages fans to give it a chance.
The Disney Channel series sequel Girl Meets World will revolve around Cory and Topanga’s daughter Riley, an adorable, loyal, and optimistic 13-year-old.
According to Zap2it, Cory takes on a Mr. Feeny-like role as Riley’s father and history teacher, while it’s assumed that Topanga became a lawyer. Along with having a daughter, the couple also have a son named Elliot, Riley’s older, know-it-all brother. Riley’s edgy best friend Maya is the Shawn to her Cory.
While Girl Meets World hasn’t been picked up yet, it’s pilot episode shoots in February.
