The Shorty Award is an annual awards show that recognizes the best content creators and producers on social media: Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram, Snapchat, and the rest of the digital world. Hosted by Keke Palmer and featuring a performance by Betty Who, this year’s show marked their 10th annual Shorty Awards. Numerous celebrities, social media stars, and companies were accounted for as nominees, presenters, or guests — from Francia Raisa to Casey Neistat to Mr Kate.
I was humbled to attend the 10th annual Shorty Awards as a Shortys winner alongside my TRL social team co-workers at MTV. We were finalists for Best Brand Identity and Best Integration With Live Television, and won Best Overall Twitter Presence for our work on the TRL Twitter account. It was truly an exciting moment for us as a new team! We got to take home a very beautiful (and heavy!) whale fin trophy and even get interviewed by the Shortys Trophy Bar host Sree Sreenivasan. In our interview we talked about how passionate we are about creating content for fans and connecting with our audience, plus I shared my biggest tip to being successful on Twitter.
