Music Monday: Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”

Carly Rae Jepsen was first discovered on Canadian Idol back in 2007, where it was immediately clear that she was a star.  “Call Me Maybe” is the lead single off of her first EP, Curiosity.

The day Curiosity was released – this past February 14 – teen superstar Justin Bieber announced on Canada’s Much Music: New Music Live that Carly had been signed to Schoolboy Records.  The label is run by Scooter Braun (J-Biebs’ manager!).

“Call Me Maybe” is catchy and fun, as is the music video for the song.  In the video, Jepsen is spying on her hot neighbor.  She tries her best to get his attention, from washing her car to performing a song for him, but in the end the neighbor gives his number to one of her bandmates instead!

Since “Call Me Maybe” dropped in September, it has reached the top of the digital charts (which is the first song by a Canadian artist to do so since Justin Bieber’s “Baby” back in 2010).  “Call Me Maybe” is the 11th song by a Canadian artist to reach No. 1 on the Nielsen SoundScan.  In addition, Jepsen is the 4th Canadian artist to hit #1 on Billboard’s Canadian Hot 100.

So, what does all this say?  Carly Rae Jepsen has star-power and is definitely an artist to look out for!

Check out Carly’s “Call Me Maybe” music video, above.

You can see Justin Bieber giving a shout out to Carly here and a video of your favorite celebs (like Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale, and more!) rockin’ out to “Call Me Maybe” after the jump!
